Doctor of Pharmacy Program (PharmD) and The Structured Practical Experiences in Pharmacy Program (SPEP) at Qatar University’s (QU) College of Pharmacy (CPH) organized their annual appreciation night and preceptor development event.
The event was hosted at Bayt Al Dhiyafah, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and was attended by over 60 preceptors from hospital, community, and primary care clinic pharmacies.
The event aimed to show appreciation for preceptors and to introduce a new software system to enhance the delivery and efficiency of the experiential programs at the college. In addition to the appreciation segment, a development session was also delivered called “Implementation of Technology into Practice and Education,” which aimed to enhance preceptor skills and foster new knowledge for practice.
The session was presented by CPH PharmD and SPEP coordinators Dr. Hazem Elewa, Dr. Monica Zoelezzi, and Dr. Bridget Javed, with assistance from CPH MSc student Ms. Nour Al Ziftawi. The session was accredited by The Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP).
Commenting on this event CPH Dean Dr. Mohammed Diab said, “Experiential training is one of the pillars of the curriculum of the College of Pharmacy. It is of great importance to enhance student’s skills and help them serve in practice. Having time dedicated to appreciate our preceptors and train them is pivotal. Preceptors are the heart of rotations and training them regularly will only make sure we match the expected outcomes of the training.”
Dr. Hazem Fathy Elewa, Head of Clinical Training said, “Recently, technology became an integral part of the health care system. The application of such technology can lead to better student education, facilitation of health care provider decision-making and improve patient’s adherence and empowerment. During this year’s preceptor development session, we explored some of these available applications, how to use them and apply them in real-life situations.”
One of the preceptors who attended the event Dr. Mai Omar, a Clinical Pharmacist at Enaya (ESCC) said, “I am very grateful for attending the preceptor development session and appreciation event. I think being a preceptor in QU is an achievement in and of itself.”
