DOHA: An inspection team from the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning are continuously monitoring food suppliers to Independent School canteens.
The monitoring is to make sure that the suppliers comply with health and safety rules and maintain the quality of food items.
There is monitoring by other bodies also, on both the suppliers and the caneteens.
According to school regulator, the Supreme Education Council (SEC), Independent School canteens have price lists of food items they sell to students.
For the primary sections, food items are priced at between QR1 and QR3 while for the preparatory and secondary school students, the prices range from QR1 to QR4.
Food items meant for diabetic students are selected by a Permanent Committee for School Canteens. This committee has members from the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), besides from the SEC, the civic ministry, the Ministry of Environment and from the Qatar Diabetes Association.
The Independent Schools do not charge any rent from canteen contractors to make sure that they provide quality food to students at affordable rates.
