DOHA: The satellite and sprawling city of Al Rayan would likely witness increasing construction activity as evidenced from the number of building licences issued by the municipality there last July.
Al Rayyan Municipality issued more building licences (117) in the month than Doha Municipality (102), the largest in terms of population but smaller than Al Rayan in size.
In Al Dayeen, building licenses issued in July totalled 53, third largest after Al Rayyan and Doha municipalities.
The municipality of Umm Salal ranked fourth with 49 licenses issued, while Al Wakrah in the south of Doha, came in fifth trailing closely with a building licence tally of 47 for the month.
While Al Khor Municipality issued 22 licences, Al Shamal had the smallest tally of barely three.
Nearly half the licenses issued were for commercial buildings, whereas industrial plants and factories accounted for more than 30 percent. Government buildings had a share of four percent in the total number of licenses issued last July.
It is interesting to note that some 11 percent of building licenses issued by the seven municipalities in the country were for mosques.
The building license tally for Al Rayyan Municipality includes those for Al Shahaniya as well although Al Shahaniya Municipality is the eighth civic body to have been recently carved out in the country.
