New York: Minister of Social Development and Family H E Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad underlined that Qatar is among the leading countries of the world in the efforts exerted to meet the needs of the elderly and has one of the best social protection systems to guarantee them a decent life.
During her participation in an event of the Friends of Age-Friendly at the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters in New York City, USA, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, she stressed that serving the elderly is an integral part of the customs and traditions of Qatari society and essential part of the Islamic religion.
Director-General of WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, chaired the event, which witnessed the participation of more than 250 participants from Their Excellencies, members of the group, and the NGO community specialised in the aging file.
The event discussed the most prominent global efforts to support the elderly and meet their needs towards realising the Sustainable Development Goals by focusing on social development.
