Doha, Qatar: Hosts Qatar fell to Tunisia in straight sets yesterday as Brazil, Iran and Italy secured places in the Round of 16 at the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship in Doha yesterday.
Tunisia won 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-17) at the Women’s Sports Hall in Aspire Zone to claim their second Pool A victory. Youssef Mallek led Tunisia with 20 points, while Ahmed Zyad Betioui and Ahmed Hamdy Hussein scored 13 and 12 points respectively for Qatar.
Qatar are fourth in Pool A, while Tunisia moved into second on six points, level with France.
Brazil completed an unbeaten Pool C campaign by beating Argentina 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-21) to finish top with eight points and book their place in the last 16. Arthur de Paula Aguiar Lima led Brazil with 18 points, while captain and setter Pedro Berlitz de Almeida contributed four aces.
Iran also secured top spot in Pool E after completing their campaign with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-17) victory over Chinese Taipei. Iran finished on nine points, with captain Sina Hazrati scoring 15 points, Radan Salehi 14 and Azhvan Namazi 13.
Defending champions Italy topped Pool B with nine points after completing an unbeaten campaign with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 26-24) win over Cuba. Federico Guiotto was Italy’s leading scorer with 19 points.
