Local vegetable markets see sale of 11,296 tonnes in four seasons

DOHA: The three local vegetable markets sold 11,296 tonnes of vegetables during the last four seasons, with the participation 231 Qatari farms.
Of the three markets, Al Mazroua was the first to open in 2012, followed by Al Khor-Dakhira in January 2013 and Al Wakrah last December.
The 2015 -2016 season was the longest, lasting seven months and witnessed the biggest sales compared to the previous seasons. A total of 1,365 tonnes of fruits, 130 tonnes of fish and 6,750 tonnes of sheep, goats and other items were sold during the season.
The 2015-2016 season saw sales worth QR58m compared to QR39m in the previous season.
The Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment is gearing up to open a new winter market in Al Shamal in the coming season, an official at the ministry earlier told this daily.
