Doha: Qatar University’s College of Law (QU-LAWC) hosted Annual Career Fair that oriented about 100 male and female students on government and private organisations in the legal and human rights sectors to help them choose the institution they want to train in or submit résumés.
Organised by the college’s Externship Programme, the event featured around 30 booths from local and international law firms and legal departments.
A ceremony honoured 60 legal employers that provided 10 weeks and 120 hours of externship experiences to more than 100 students of the college this academic year.
Students had the opportunity to interact with employers and get an insight into the labour market’s needs and employers’ expectations as well as training services and internships they can follow to develop skills, abilities and professional experience.
Dr Mohamed bin Abdul Aziz Al Khulaifi, Dean of the college, said: “The college continues to deliver on its mission and vision to graduate distinguished and skilled individuals who will contribute to advancing the legal sector in Qatar.
“The event highlights the college’s pursuit in providing students with opportunities to high-quality academic programmes and vocational training to strengthen professional experience and help them choose their career path.”
Dr Yassin El Shazly, Associate Dean, Communication and Community Service, said: “It is important for our students to start to network with companies from whom they can receive training and internship experience and who will be their employers.”
Melissa Joy Deehring, Director, Externship Programme, said: “The event highlighted the programme’s role in developing students’ knowledge, skills and experience and prepare them to join the labour market through training activities and internships in local and international institutions which reflects objectives and values outlined in national development strategies.”
