Qatar Shell and Bedaya Centre officials after signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

DOHA: Qatar Shell has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bedaya Centre to launch the ‘Enterprise Challenge Qatar 2013,’ a programme designed to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship and develop business knowledge amongst youth.

The ‘Enterprise Challenge Qatar 2013’ will be open to students from all of Qatar’s universities, as well as a separate programme for high schools in Al Khor and Al Shamal.

The programme consists of two parts: the Ethical Business Challenge which tests students’ ability to balance the economic, environmental and social performance of their company and the Business Simulation, which is designed to familiarize students with general business concepts from inception through to trading, finance, sales, marketing and production.

Qatar Shell is the founding sponsor of Mosaic in Qatar, an initiative of the Prince of Wales for Muslim youth around the world, and which developed The Enterprise Challenge.

Speaking at the signing, Wael Sawan, Managing Director and Chairman of Qatar Shell said, “The ‘Enterprise Challenge Qatar 2013’ will help develop the students’ understanding of business and enterprise, whilst equipping them with the necessary skills to grow not only as business leaders, but as successful, and confident individuals. I am excited to see how the programme runs, and how the teams from the schools and universities perform this year.”

“We hope that this initiative will help contribute to the human development pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030, through investing in Qatari talent and developing Qatari enterprise.’ added Sawan.

Qatar Shell is wholly committed to supporting local enterprise, whether through existing businesses both large and small, or encouraging young people to choose private enterprise as a career option.

Building on the programme’s large appeal to students last year, Enterprise Challenge Qatar 2013 is being expanded to reach a larger group of universities and will also target schools in the northern municipalities of the country.

The programme is delivered through workshops and a sequence of computer challenges that aim to equip participants with practical business skills to develop their business acumen, team work and strategic thinking. Competing teams will be assigned mentors trained by Qatar Shell and Bedaya.
