DOHA: Enterprise Qatar (EQ), in partnership with TechWadi, on Monday announced the opening of ‘QHackathon 2013’, a competition for Arab entrepreneurs and stakeholders to develop apps based on mobile payment solutions, said a press statement.
The event that kicked-off on Monday at Katara Cultural Village will run for one week.
Participants of the EQ and TechWadi QHackathon represent the culmination of the 2013 Al Fikra-MIT Enterprise Forum for the Pan-Arab region, bringing together 130 young qualifiers selected from 13,000 applicants across 20 Arab countries for the finals of the MIT- Enterprise Forum for the Pan-Arab region competition (“MIT-EF”).
Alongside the MIT-EF finalists are 20 of the best Qatar-based entrepreneurs who have reached the finals in Al Fikra. Noora Al Mannai, CEO of EQ, said: “Entrepreneurs in the Middle East are still facing challenges hindering their efforts to grow their own businesses such as the absence of funding, lack of incubation opportunities and technical support.”
