Doha: Qatar Charity (QC), with the support from the people in Qatar, has recently provided aid to those affected by the floods that hit the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, benefiting 300 families, who lost all their possessions and their homes were demolished.
The recent assistance, which included 300 food baskets, were distributed to the most needy flood-hit families in the state, in cooperation with the Guidance Educational and Welfare Society. Each basket consists of basic food item sufficient for a family of five for a period of a month approximately.
Abdul Majid Nadawi, CEO of the Guidance Educational and Welfare Society, thanked the people in Qatar for their generous donations, hoping that their giving through Qatar Charity would continue to support other poor people in the states of Bihar and UP, where a large number of families live below the poverty line.
It is worth mentioning that northern parts of India, particularly the State of Bihar, experience heavy raining and high water levels in rivers each year, bringing harsh flooding annually.
Such situations cause the death and displacement of thousands of people in addition to damaging infrastructure, homes and farmlands badly.
Qatar Charity has previously provided aid to the needy and those affected by the floods to ease their suffering. The aid included clothes, mattresses, blankets, school bags and other items.
Qatar Charity has also handed over housing units in response to the need of those who lost their homes and all their belongings. The housing units worth more than QR1m came to provide safe shelter and restore the trust of beneficiaries in living a dignified life.
