Aspire, DCMF sign pact for media literacy

DOHA: Aspire Academy signed yesterday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF) under which the two parties agreed to contribute to the success of school news activities of media literacy programmes, a press release said yesterday.

The MoU is meant to provide support to Aspire student athletes in the field of media by introducing them to the basics and train them how to face media and good use of different media outlets, especially the proper use of social media.

“We, in Aspire Academy, strongly convinced and believe in the importance of communicating properly with different media outlets and the good use of them by our student athletes. We feel it is equally important to provide our student athletes in the academy with all possible means to prepare them to be up to the challenges ahead and to deal properly with different media tribune and the good use of new media outlet,” said Badr Jassim Al Hay, Director of Education and Students Care at Aspire Academy after signing the MoU with the Director General of DCMF, M Jan Keulen.

Keulen said: “Through the media literacy programme the students will gain insight into the working of media and the importance of press freedom. The programme aims to contribute to the students’ critical thinking and analytical skills and to fully prepare them to take part in the information society of the future.”
