The students of Birla Public School (BPS) have won second place at the Global Act Impact Awards (GAIA) as part of THIMUN Qatar 2022.
The students have started an organisation called ‘Project Upcycle’’.
It aims at creating a more sustainable world through reusing and upcycling old and torn clothes, waste fabric from tailoring stores, unused materials, etc.
Their mission statement is ‘Undo, Uplift, Upcycle’.
They have collaborated with two small businesses called ‘The Sewing Studio’ and ‘Ecosouk Qatar’ as their partners. Part of their mission was incorporating the United Nations SDG goals including SDGs 8, 11, 12 and 17.
Amrit Manoj, Balanethran Gurunathan, Dianne Lobo, Ivana Thomas, Nandini Mathur, Paridhi Gaur and Prashansa Oruganti are the seven high school students behind this initiative. The management, staff and students of Birla are extremely proud of their achievement.
