Doha: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) and the Ministry of Awqaf (Religious Endowments and Islamic Affairs) yesterday signed a cooperation agreement on combating tobacco and its derivatives.
The deal was signed by the Director of Public Health Department at SCH, Dr Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, and Mohamed Jabor Al Mesaifri, Administrative Expert at the office of the Minister of Awqaf. It aims at stamping out the dangers of tobacco use among all segments of society, especially young people of both genders.
It is the culmination of a partnership which aims at achieving the best possible results through maximum efforts to eradicate the tobacco use in Qatar, said Sheikh Mohamed.
Al Mesaifri said the agreement will have a profound impact on the unification of efforts and the preparation of plans to combat tobacco and its derivatives and raise awareness about their dangers.
Under the deal, SCH and the ministry will work on developing campaigns, events and educational programmes.
