Doha: Following the successful launch of its new Pro Bono Service, the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) has awarded its inaugural Pro Bono Appreciation Award to Omani & Partners Law Firm LLP and Sultan Al-Abdulla & Partners.
The purpose of the QICDRC Pro Bono service is to extend support to eligible individuals who genuinely cannot afford to pay for legal assistance - namely those whose legal issues fall within the jurisdiction of the Qatar International Court or Regulatory Tribunal - and provide them with access to free legal advice and representation through the medium of volunteer lawyers and private sector law firms.
Faisal Al Sahouti, CEO of the Qatar International Court, said: “We are honoured to present the Pro Bono Appreciation Award to two outstanding legal firms in Qatar - Omani & Partners Law Firm LLP and Sultan Al-Abdulla & Partners - to honour their time and dedication in volunteering with the QICDRC Pro Bono Service 2020. Their service to ensure that people do not become marginalised from the legal system during times of crisis captures our mission as legal professionals to provide and enhance access to justice.”
“It is with their help that we look towards a promising future for the Pro Bono Service to benefit those who are in need of legal support, whilst building a strong judicial ecosystem in Qatar.”
Lawyers and legal firms volunteering with the QICDRC Pro Bono Service provide legal advice and representation in relation to disputes, which fall within the jurisdiction of either the Qatar International Court or the QFC Regulatory Tribunal, reflecting a sense of commitment and extending a positive impact on both the professional development of individual lawyers and their firm’s relationship with the QFC community. In the past decade, QICDRC has achieved a considerable reputation as a specialist international court at the heart of Qatar’s growing and thriving business environment.
Since its foundation in 2009, the Court has upheld international best practices within Qatar’s vibrant commercial environment, inspired by the idea of creating a unique model for the resolution of international civil and commercial disputes within the country’s judicial system.
