Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara hosted yesterday a lecture entitled “Economic Diplomacy,” delivered by the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a group of academics, interested parties and students.

The lecture dealt with the role of the economy in public diplomacy as a new dimension in achieving national economic interests, the interests of the private sector and public national interests. 

This is in addition to its review of many axes such as tools and concepts of public diplomacy and its relationship to soft power, civil society and the role of governments, economic diplomacy and its functions, Qatari economic diplomacy and its impact, economic diplomacy and sports.

Eng. Darwish Ahmed Al Shaibani, Secretary-General of the International Public Diplomacy Network and CEO of the Katara Centre for Public Diplomacy, stressed that economic diplomacy plays an important role in consolidating communication between nations and peoples to build friendships. 

He noted that Qatar is one of the prominent countries that have tangible achievements in economic diplomacy, which is one of the most important means of promoting and expanding the fruits of economic and social development, and it also contributes to laying an excellent base. To develop relations between states and peoples, in addition to strengthening and strengthening diplomatic bridges, and creating a force of influence and attraction on the international arena.

Lecturer, Dr. Wael Shadid said that public diplomacy has a major role in the world, pointing out that Qatar is a pioneer in public diplomacy and has developed a special product in this field.

He added that the lecture tried to focus on economics as one of the most important aspects of public diplomacy, expressing his hope that the near future will witness the launch of distinguished initiatives in the field of public diplomacy through the Katara Centre for Public Diplomacy, stressing that these initiatives will have distinct regional and international dimensions.

The lecturer thanked the International Public Diplomacy Network and Katara Centre for Public Diplomacy for providing the opportunity to introduce public diplomacy in general and economic diplomacy in particular.
