DOHA: The third conference on Qatar Construction Specification opened at Torch Hotel yesterday under the patronage of Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi.
Dr Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, Assistant Undersecretary for Standards and Specifications at the Ministry, said: “This year’s edition comes after Qatari companies have become obliged from last year to apply Qatari construction specifications for government and private buildings.
Qatar’s construction specifications, being applied by Qatari institutions and private companies, have become an international reference for hot and humid areas in the world.
Applying such specifications will increase buildings’ quality to achieve sustainable development and enhance safety condition at construction sites, Dr Al Kuwari said.
He said they are preparing for the 2018 edition of Qatar specifications which will be an international edition.
Engineer Eisa Al Hammadi, CEO, Qatar Primary Materials Company, said the company signed a contract some three months back with a big international company to maintain quality of primary materials.
The company will also check materials coming from Oman, Ras Al Khaimah and Al Fujairah to prevent any materials which do not meet the standards.
He said they are organising a local market to facilitate sale and offer materials to the government and private sectors at competitive prices.
The company has received three ISO quality certificates from ISO International Organisation. The Peninsula
