Doha: Nine months after the signature at Ho-Chi-Minh City of a partnership agreement (for import, distribution and assembly), Peugeot and the Vietnamese Thaco Group are celebrating the launch of the Peugeot brand in Vietnam with the Peugeot 408, produced locally at Thaco’s Chulai plant in the Danang region. The launch ceremony takes place in the presence of Le Duong Quang, Vice-Minister for Industry and Commerce, SE Jean-Noel Poirier, the French Ambassador to Vietnam, Tran Ba Duong, President of the Thaco Group and Jean-Yves Dossal, Sales Director of Asian operations for PSA Peugeot Citroen, a press release issued by Peugeot said yeterday.
With this partnership, Peugeot and its partner are starting industrial and sales activities in Vietnam on schedule, in one of the biggest Asean markets in terms of volume, with the promise of strong growth in the years to come. Peugeot continues to accelerate its international sales strategy (43 percent of sales outside of Europe in 2013), on track to achieve its objective of 50 percent in 2015.
With the start of production of the Peugeot 408, of which 261,000  units have already been produced and sold over three continents, Peugeot and its partner Thaco, a leader in the Vietnamese vehicle market, are attacking straight away a strategic segment that represents 22 percent of sales in the Vietnamese car market, the press release added.
