Integrated with a health centre, the Ras Laffan Hospital has been handed over to Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, the Private Engineering Office said yesterday.
The two healthcare facilities exclusively for expatriate workers will be equipped and operated by the HMC.
The hospital project is one of three executed by the Private Engineering Office to boost the health sector in the country. The Industrial Area Hospital (Abu Nakhla Hospital), was handed over to HMC a year ago, and Mesaieed Hospital, will be completed by end of the year, according to the Private Engineering Office.
The three hospitals and their facilities help in enhancing health services and cater the workers in different regions as well as help alleviate the pressure on hospitals in Doha.
The Ras Laffan Hospital is constructed over an area of 200,000 square meters and is comprise of four levels. It has 118 beds and has the capacity to add 100 more beds as the land area has space for constructing a parallel building if it becomes needed in the future. A health centre for primary care is situated on the premises of the hospital.
The health centre will also provide medical commission services and expected to ease the pressure on health centers in the neighboring areas.
In addition, the project includes supportive service facilities, including a mosque with the capacity to accommodate 400 people and a 1,300-square meter cafeteria to serve high number of visitors.
Built to reflect Qatari heritage and architecture, the hospital building features green areas and parking facility which could accommodate 704 vehicles, including 200 covered parking spaces and 21 designated for people with disabilities as well as corridors and streets linking the different buildings of the hospital.
The heath centre, situated on the ground floor of the hospital, also has a day care unit, emergency department, central lab, central pharmacy, intensive care unit, outpatient clinics, dental clinic, rehabilitation and physiotherapy clinic, burns unit, in addition to laparoscopic and medical commission services, and computed tomography, radiology and magnetic resonance imaging.
The second floor of the hospital has six operating rooms, a 16-bed intensive care unit, administrative and educational services, human resources department. The inpatient department has 102 beds and four quarantine rooms.
The hospital has three main entrances, an ambulance entrance, a central kitchen, a central laundry and a morgue as well as a helipad on the rooftop to facilitate lading of Life Flights and transport critical and urgent cases.
While, the emergency department of the hospital has 30 beds as well as rooms for minor operations. It handles medical emergencies such as injuries, accidents and burns.
The hospital is set to serve people from Ras Laffan and the neighboring areas and is expected to receive 1,000 to 1,200 visitors every day.
Construction work of the hospital lasted for three years and was built according to the approved standard specifications, especially in terms of construction of green buildings. The construction of the second labor hospital in Qatar comes as part of the state’s keenness on providing high quality health services to all segments of society within the framework of Qatar National Vision 2030.
