Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently welcomed Ambassador Amal Al Hamad, Head of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) delegation to the European Union (EU), to Qatar as the first featured speaker in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) Dean’s Lecture Series.
The well-attended event was hosted by Dr Amal Al Malki, founding dean of the college, on November 14 and shed light on the strategic relationship between the GCC and EU, with the official speaking candidly with the students, faculty, government officials, and members of the general public in attendance.
Dr Al Malki said: “The Dean’s Lecture series aims to bring the community and specialists together to discuss topics of social, cultural, and regional importance and enhance the intellectual life in Doha.”
Ambassador Amal Al Hamad has led the GCC delegation at the EU since 2008 and was selected as the first speaker in the series not only because of her prominent role, but also because of her willingness to engage with the community and her ability to comment on critical challenges facing GCC stability and growth. The Ambassador noted her longtime interest in Qatar Foundation and in visiting Education City and also mentioned her excitement at having been given the opportunity to speak to students in the audience about the GCC-EU relationship and its relevance for their lives.
