Doha: Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) has announced the launch of the ‘Aspire Embassies Futsal Tournament’.
The announcement came during a technical meeting attended by representatives from AZF, Qatar Football Association and several embassies based in Qatar, on Thursday.
The tournament will be held at Aspire Dome from this month until February with the participation of 18 embassies. The missions will be split into two groups of nine each and will compete in 80 matches.
The launch of the competition builds on the success of a smaller-scale tournament organised for the first time during Ramadan as part of AZF’s programme of activities during the holy month.
It highlights AZF’s aim to expand community participation in physical activities and support healthier and more active lifestyles among the people.
Ali Al Fehaida, Acting Director-General, Aspire Logistics, said: “We are delighted to launch the tournament for embassies as part of our programme of engagement with public and private sector organisations. Such activities play an important role in helping promote health and fitness and strengthening ties between employees in a fun and exciting environment outside the workplace. This also aligns with our goals to make positive contributions to improving the physical health and productivity of employees in Qatar.”
Humaid Al Humaid, Saudi Deputy Ambassador, said: “We would like to thank AZF for organising the tournament — it is a great initiative. In addition to sporting benefits and helping people keep fit, the tournament provides opportunity for employees of embassies to meet and network with peers from similar professional backgrounds outside their office environment.”
Participating embassies are: Saudi Arabia; the UAE; Kuwait; Jordan; Syria; France; Portugal; Sri Lanka; Somalia; Russia; Spain, Mexico; the US; Algeria; Tunisia; India; Ethiopia and Kenya.
The tournament also follows the successful launch of Aspire Banks League last month.
