The Embassy of Ecuador in Doha is a unique diplomatic mission as Ecuador has its only embassy in the Gulf region which is in Qatar. The Ambassador of Ecuador to Qatar, Yvonne A-Baki, (pictured) is a dynamic personality who has always been driven by her ideals.
She is an artist, painter, diplomat, peace negotiator, humanist and politician. “I am the Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador to Qatar and Non-resident Ambassador to Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. My dream has always been to achieve peace and development through diplomacy and dialogue between nations by sharing our cultures,” she said.
“Ecuador is a very special country that has a lot to offer to others, we are living in a globalised World. Distances do not count anymore. Being an Ambassador of Ecuador, I am trying to bring Ecuador to the Middle East and to take the Arab countries to Ecuador. Tourism is a very unique way of doing that,” she noted.
The Ecuadorian community in Qatar, she said, although very small is a good community whose majority members work as pilots for Qatar Airways. “We are proud of the strong connection between the Qatar and Ecuador,” she added.
It is through her art that she tries to promote peace, unity, and love among nations, to make them see the power beyond hate and prejudice which she thinks is ‘bigger and more sublime’.
With the aim of changing this world into a better and more tolerant place, A-Baki started her long and successful career as a visionary artist. She has exhibited her paintings in many countries in four continents, and her artworks have touched the souls of thousands of people.
“I started my career as an artist, my passion and time revolved around the artistic life from very young age. Since I was following my instincts and had no boundaries at that time in achieving my goals for peace and global harmony, I found myself later in life participating in the political life. Now I am trying to enhance my beliefs in my political path,” she said.
The Ambassador played an efficient part of the Peace Negotiations between the Republic of Ecuador and Peru. The treaty will mark the 20th anniversary on October 26, 2018.
