DOHA: The Ministry of Energy and Industry has taken back a total of 107 plots that were allotted to entrepreneurs after they failed to launch their proposed projects.
The plots were given to the entrepreneurs way back in 2006 and the ministry found that they were not keen on launching the projects. A total of 27 plots were taken back in 2012 alone, Al Sharq quoted Yousef Ahmed , director, Small and Medium Enterprises (under the ministry) as saying.
According to Yousef Ahmed, at least 108 plots have been given to new investors this year. Opportunities for investors continue to exist and plots are still available for the genuine entrepreneurs.
Yousef Ahmed said a total of 129 industries are already in operational in the specially dedicated zone in the Industrial Area. Of the total 483 proposed projects in the area, 19 are fast progressing. Another 18 are in the final phase. On the power supply to the industrial units Yousef Ahmed said the ministry has been setting up a power station in line with international standards with the full coordination of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa).
The administration is keen to implement security and safety measures in the area. The civil defence department is in the process of completing its building, he said.
