The number of cases attended by Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Emergency Services increased on the second day of Eid Al Adha.

However, the number of road accidents reduced on the second day of Eid, and no critical cases were reported, said officials.

Doctors and nurses across HMC trauma and emergency departments continue to offer lifesaving care to all people with medical emergencies.

The Ambulance Service is safely transporting patients with medical emergencies.

Also, walk-in patients are received and are treated by the nursing team and guided to appropriate area and level of care.

The main Emergency Department at Hamad General Hospital (HGH) received 418 cases on the second day of Eid, which is almost a 15 percent increase from the first day of Eid.

“The number of cases has increased by 15 to 20 from the first day of Eid. This can be mainly because people start to go out on the second day of Eid,” Dr. Abdulnasir Howaidi, Senior Consultant at the Emergency Department, told The Peninsula.

“About 10 percent of 418 cases were admitted to the hospital, however, the positive thing is that road accidents reduced from five to two on the second day of Eid,” said Dr. Howaidi.

He advised people to take precautions and keep safe during holidays.

Among the total number of cases seen at the HGH Emergency Department, 67 were transported by the Ambulance Service.

On the second day of Eid Al Adha, from 12am to 12 noon the Ambulance Service transported 155 people, and among those cases were four road traffic accidents, and one medical emergency case evacuated by LifeFlight from across the country.

However, majority of the cases were minor medical and trauma cases, according to Assistant Executive Director of the Ambulance Service, Ali Darwish.

“The expected reason for the increase in cases is mainly the people, who were more indoors during the first day of Eid, and on the second day they ventured out,” he said.

The Paediatric Emergency Centre in Al Sadd has received 436 cases. Among them four were admitted to HGH and three were referred to Sidra Medicine’s Emergency Department.

Acting Chairman of Paediatrics and Director of Paediatric Centres Dr. Mohamed Al Amri said, “These were mostly minor trauma or cut wounds cases. There was one urgent case of anaphylaxis due to food allergy and this patient is now stable and has been discharged. One of the cases that were referred to HGH was because of neonatal fever. The cases that were transferred to Sidra Medicine were as a result of trauma.”

Yesterday’s number in PEC Al Sadd was higher than the first day of Eid Al Adha and according to Dr. Al Amri there is a trend that the cases are more compared to the first day of Eid

Among the  satellite Paediatric Emergency Centres, Al Rayyan had 176 cases, Old Airport area has received 61 cases and Al Daayen received 41 cases.

“There is one case of anaphylaxis as a child had eaten biscuits with sesame oil and had an allergic reaction. There was still another case of food allergy and both of them are stable and have been discharged,” said Dr. Al Amri.
