Some of the participants in the fifth edition of the Al Mina Pearl Diving competition for children, which started yesterday at the Katara Beach.
The fifth edition of the Al Mina Pearl Diving competition for children started yesterday at the Katara Beach which will run until next Friday. Overall, 168 contestants between ages of 10-15 years old are participating.
The competition began at 4pm with the gathering of the participants wearing their traditional marine dress and carrying their own luggage at Gate No. 16 on the Katara waterfront, before they boarded the sailboats and distributed them into three categories: diving, hadaq, and fishing.
Saeed Al Kuwari, the supervisor of competition, said that event embodies an educational journey that represents a valuable opportunity for the participating children to learn the values of cooperation, solidarity, self-reliance, endurance, patience and perseverance, pointing out that the competition provides the participants with a rich and useful experience to learn about the marine sciences.
He explained that the children will further their knowledge on fishing, diving, navigation, weather conditions, wind speed and wave movement, in addition to how to sail a boat.
On the other hand, the activities and competitions of the competition continue on Thursdays after the performance of the Fajr prayer, then the contestants return to Katara at 10am, as this period includes a break, lunch and prayer, followed by the start of the participating teams and the continuation of the activities, then their return to Katara Beach before sunset to participate in the Falq Oysters.
This is then followed by dinner and folk games on the beach, while the activities of the closing day of the competition will begin after the Fajr prayer and continue until 10am, then return to the headquarters in Katara to perform the prayer and listen to the Friday sermon before heading to the sea to complete the rest of the activities and prepare for the closing ceremony.
