Doha: High-density plastic debris was removed from Al Ruwais Beach as part of a campaign under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment.
Around 30 volunteers from Galfar Al Misnad Engineering and Construction Company took part in the national beach clean-up campaign supported by Al Shamal Municipality.
Debris accumulated in the area is an indication of the seriousness of widespread littering on beaches and seas in the region. Plastic debris litters oceans causing hazards to the ecologically-sensitive marine environment.
Beach clean-ups, followed by awareness campaigns are the last line of defence to prevent debris from harming our sea, marine life and coastal economies and stop toxic chemical pollutants from ending up in our diet through marine food.
Satish G Pillai, Executive Director, expressed the company’s keenness to support the noble cause by working together with the ministry for clean-up of the 7km stretch of west coast of Al Shamaal on a monthly basis.
The ministry thanked the municipality and the company for support.
