Qatar football coach Jorge Fossati yesterday named a 16-player squad for a friendly against the UAE on June 6, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) has confirmed.
Qatar will host the UAE before playing the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against South Korea in Doha on June 13. The Asian Zone Group A game will be the 8th for Qatar in this phase.
The UAE is also preparing for their Group B clash against Thailand. The June 6 friendly is aimed to give Qatar and the UAE some much-needed practice ahead of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
The Qatar squad does not include Lekhwiya players since the Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions are away in Tehran for their round 16 game of the AFC Champions League.
The Lekhwiya players will join the Qatar squad once they get back to Doha, QFA said yesterday.
Qatar currently are at the bottom of Group A with 4 points. Iran lead the group with 17 points, followed by South Korea (13 points), Uzbekistan (12 points), Syria (8 points) and China (5 points).
