The Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum (FBQ Museum) is calling for submissions from artists in Qatar for an exhibition it is planning to organise after the COVID-19 crisis.
In its just released April 2020 newsletter, the museum has announced an open call for all artists in the country to take part in an exhibition it is mulling to organise after the pandemic titled “Artists in the Time of COVID-19 Crisis.”
“Let’s turn anxiety, fear and negativity, but also hope and determination into creativity! Express your experience of COVID-19 through art and get a chance to participate in an exhibition at FBQ Museum’s The White Majlis! No matter if painting, photography, film or installation – we want to see your creativity burst and withstand these uncertain times,” it said.
Those who wish their works to be included in the exhibition may send the art work’s title and description, photo and its dimensions along with a short artist bio to: [email protected]
Since the time the museum temporarily closed its doors in mid-March as part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it has taken the opportunity to work on the amazing collection and design a new museum experience, said Kees Wieringa, FBQ Museum Director.
“We are preparing the new FBQ Car Museum and we are also working on digitizing the collection of artifacts which will be accessible through our new software that will be available for you online to view our unique collection and use it for research,” said Wieringa.
Spread on a 5,000sqm space, the new car museum will display 120 cars, among them sports cars and classic cars, selected out from around 700 cars of the museum collection.
Meanwhile, FBQ Museum continues to actively engage with visitors, providing them inspiration through its vast collection via its social media channels.
Established in 1998 as a non-profit museum foundation of public interest, FBQ Museum is home to a growing collection of more than 50,000 objects developed throughout decades of dedicated and enthusiastic collecting of a diverse and eclectic body of works across four themes including Islamic Art, Qatar Heritage, Vehicles, and Coins & Currency coming from four continents and different time periods.
Envisaged by Sheikh Faisal and purpose-built to preserve and display the extraordinary collection, the museum design is particularly dedicated to upholding and promoting Islamic heritage.
In 2010, the museum was selected as one of Qatar’s cultural landmarks as part of the ‘Qatar Capital of Culture’ activities. The museum is a popular tourist destination and a valuable resource for scholars and educational institutions.
