Doha: In order to promote Indonesian traditional dance in the Middle East, the Indonesian diaspora in Qatar held a medley of Indonesian traditional dance on Saturday which was held at one of the most iconic stadiums in Qatar, Al Bayt Stadium – where the opening of the 2022 World Cup will be held.
Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar, H E Ridwan Hassan pointed out that in addition to promoting the Indonesian culture, this activity could also improve Indonesia-Qatar bilateral relations in promotion of the World Cup.
“Furthermore, this activity is a form of our celebration of diversity,” he said.
Those involved in this performance were the art directing team of Puspa Qinarya, Sanggar Messaied and Sanggar Saman Al Khor.
The dancers consisted of three different generations, namely children, teenagers and adults. In the Nusantara dance medley (Nusantara means archipelago), they performed among others the Sajojo dance from Papua, Sirih Kuning from Jakarta and Saman dance from Aceh.
The ambassador also conveyed that the Indonesia-Qatar cultural cooperation would enter a new phase, notifying that Indonesia is in the selection process as a partner country in the Year of Culture 2023. “In the spirit of friendship between the two nations, I invite all Indonesian diaspora to participate in Qatar can contribute to the success of the Qatar-Indonesia Year of Culture event.”
Chairman of the Indonesian Community Association in Qatar, Ahmad Syarnubi Fatah said that the Indonesian community in Qatar is very dynamic. This is not the first time the group conducted such activity.
