Hassad ups local production of poultry and vegetables to ensure food security in Qatar

Doha: The food production of Hassad, Qatar’s premier investor in the food and agri-business sectors, has increased significantly as the company is producing 16 million chickens, 120 million eggs and 8,000 tonnes vegetables in a year to ensure the food security in the country. 

“The production of the Arab Qatari Company for Poultry Production (Al Waha), a subsidiary of Hassad will reach around 16 million chicken and 120 million eggs annually,” said Mohamed bin Badr Al Sadah, Hassad Food CEO in a statement.  

He said that as for the vegetables’ sector, Hassad increased the cultivated land since the beginning of the blockade, to reach 8,000 tonnes of vegetables per year.

“For fodder sector, we have increased the cultivated lands in Hassad’s fodder farms, to increase the production up to 10,000 tonnes annually, as well as introducing new products like “Alfa Alfa,” Al Sadah added.

The statement released on the occasion of Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition 2018 “AgriteQ”, organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in its 6th edition at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center “DECC”.

Hassad Food CEO, said,  “We aim to support the country’s food security efforts, by expanding our local and international investments. We conducted an in-depth research on the local market needs from the three sectors, developed suitable plans and started implementing them to support in satisfying those needs.”

Hassad has played a major role in meeting the local market needs from fodder products at the beginning of the blockade. The company immediately provided Fodder products to a number of Poultry and Livestock farms to ensure the continuity of local production from milk and poultry.

During AgrtieQ, Hassad’s pavilion is showcasing various high quality products, produced by several of its subsidiaries: Arab Qatari Company for Agriculture Production (QTFA) is displaying fresh Vegetables, Arab Qatari for Poultry Production (AlWaha) is showcasing poultry products, Hassad Australia is showing chilled meat, while Aalaf Qatar is displaying high quality fodder products. premium dates, basmati rice and olive oil are on display by NAFCO.

Hassad’s pavilion also include a consultation Majlis, in which free consultation is being provided on different topics related to the food section. The pavilion also features several educational activities for children in different age groups, and other interesting experiences for the exhibition visitors. 

Hassad has diversified investments in Qatar, Australia and Oman with potential future investments in several other places. Through its various subsidiaries, the company produces livestock, grains, fodder, poultry products, vegetables, rice, dates and many other products.
