Oud Festival leaves music fans impressed

Qatari musician Mohamed Al Sulaiti performs at the finale of "The Fifth String" Oud festival at Katara Opera House on Tuesday night.

The first “The Fifth String” Oud Festival organised by the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara witnessed a dazzling finale with performances by famous musicians on Tuesday.
The festival culminated with a concert by maestros such as Mohamed
Al Sulaiti from Qatar, Mehmet Bitmez from Turkey, Arten Elyaz from Kosovo, and the much-awaited performances of Abbadi Al Jawher from Saudi Arabia and Ahmad Fathi from Yemen.
The finale also witnessed a show by Al-Salam Group from Tanzania as well as The Hejaz Kar Group from France at Katara’s Amphitheatre. Fourteen renowned musicians from around the world participated at the four-day festival enthralling audiences with their spectacular shows.
On Monday, audiences enjoyed solo and group performances by musicians representing Iraq, Syria, Turkey and France. The festival offered an array of events for all music lovers including concerts at Katara Opera House, Ziryab’s theatre and an Oud exhibition. These events featured performances by Arab musicians including famous names such as Khalid Al Shaikh from Bahrain, Dr Ibrahim Tami from Kuwait, Salem Al Meqarshi from Oman, Ehab Mohammed from Saudi Arabia, among others.
On the side, five stages had been set up in Katara, where groups of skilled Oud makers showed their unique oud-making techniques.
