DOHA: The Katara Beach Administration has announced that registration for the fifth edition of Senyar traditional fishing and pearl diving competition is open until March 10. The championship aims to preserve Qatar’s maritime heritage and promote its customs and traditions related to marine environment among the younger generation.
More Qatari youth are expected to register this year with the success of last year’s competition where the number of participants reached 800.
To allow maximum participation, the duration of the competitions will be longer this year, according to organisers.
Unlike the previous edition, the competitions will be scheduled during weekends.
The first group of teams will compete from March 31 to April 2 and the second group from April 7 to 9.
Finals will be held from April 13 to 15 with the awarding ceremony on April 16. Each team may have 10 to 12 members and is allowed to have one member from another GCC state.
