H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Cultural Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar's candidate for the post of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural (Unesco) has met with a number of senior officials in the United Mexican States as part of his current tour of the Caribbean and the South American continent countries.
The Qatari candidate for Unesco met with Mexican Secretary of Culture Maria Cristina Cepeda. Talks during the meeting dealt with the importance of cultural diplomacy between cultures as well as the threats on the World Heritage as a result of conflicts and wars. Dr Al Kawari presented his vision for the future of Unesco.
On her part, the Minister expressed admiration for the Qatari role in the dialogue of civilisations, lauding the programmes created by Qatar for interaction between different cultures. She wished success to Dr Al Kawari and voiced aspiration for cooperating with him in the future.
Meanwhile, the Mexican Foreign Ministry formed a technical team from the Ministries of Education, Culture and Foreign Affairs to meet with the Qatari candidate, where he gave a general presentation on his vision. Then they conducted a detailed discussion about the educational cultural and scientific aspects of Dr Al Kawari's vision.
Dr Al Kawari also held a meeting with Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos de Icaza and Vice-Minister for Human Rights and Multilateral Affairs Miguel Ruiz, where a broad discussion was stirred on the Qatari candidate's vision in addition to Mexico's role in Unesco.
Qatar's Ambassador to the United Mexican States Ahmed Abdullah Al Kuwari attended the meetings.
