Doha:  Qatar Stars League (QSL) winners Lekhwiya SC trounced Al Sadd 4-1 to win the one-off match of the Sheikh Jassim Cup.
Yesterday at the Al Ahli Stadium, coach Djamel Belmadi side pumped in two quick goals in the second half to take the game away from Al Sadd and  to avenge last year’s defeat at the hands of the Wolves in the same event.
Last year, Al Sadd had regained the Cup by defeating Lekhwiya 3-2.
Lekhwiya started proceedings on an impressive note to take an early 18th minute lead through Ismail Mohammad.
Thereafter, both teams tried to unsettle the rival defence but without any success.
The teams went into the half time break with Lekhwiya leading 1-0. On resumption, Lekhwiya increased lead in the very first minute with Mohamed Razaq finding the back of the net.
More goals were in the store  with Lekhwiya netting the third goal of the match through Nam Tae Hee to compound the misery for Al Sadd.
Coach Jesualdo Ferreira side pulled one back in the 60th minute through the efforts of Mashaal Qassim to make it 3-1.
Vladimir Weiss put the issue beyond doubt by scoring, Lekhwiya’s fourth goal .
