Doha: The ninth edition of the Indian Football Tournament for Western Union City Exchange Trophy, has started at Doha Stadium.
The annual event is organised by expatriate organisation, Qatar Indian Football Forum (QIFF), to promote football among the Indian community.
Sharaf P Hameed, CEO, City Exchange Company, formally inaugurated the event on Friday at 6.30pm.
Capt. Riyadh Ahmed Saleh (Traffic Department), Saud Nasser Al Emadi (Qatar 2022), First Lt. Waleed Ali (Qatar Police Sports), First Lt. Waleed Al Thameem (Coast Guard), Lt. Rashid (Ministry of Interior), Mohmmed Ali Jaghman (Community Police), Abdulla Al Mohannadi, and Jamaal Darjani and Sara Odeh (both from QFA), Ibrahim Al Malki, Shamsudheen Olakara, and K Mohammed Essa attended.
Sixteen teams representing districts of Kerala are participating and matches will be held through Thursdays and Fridays until November 13. The final match will be held at Qatar Sports Club Stadium. Magic performance in support to Qatar 2022 added colour to the inaugural ceremony.
Sports and other distinguished personalities from Qatar, along with about 5,000 people attended the first day events. QIFF has organised the tournament in co-operation with Qatar Indian Football Association (QFA) which has provided support, stadium and referees. QIFF started the tournament for the expatriate community since 2007.
