Doha, Qatar: Qatar slipped one place to 59th position in the FIFA Rankings announced by the game’s governing body yesterday. The Asian champions, who were ranked 58th in the previous rankings, took part in the CONCACAF Gold Cup where they reached the quarter-finals, losing to Panama.
In the group stage, the Carlos Queiroz’s side had defeated eventual champions Mexico, who clinched their ninth Gold Cup crown.
Mexico have improved two places and are on 12th place in the latest rankings led by world champions Argentina with France and Brazil continue to occupy second and third positions respectively.
Qatar’s ranking is sixth best among the Arab countries as they are behind World Cup semi-finalists Morocco (14), Tunisia (31), Algeria (33), Egypt (34) and Saudi Arabia (54).
After a break following their Gold Cup campaign, Qatar will start their preparation for the World Cup 2026 Qualifiers set to begin in November.
