Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior has launched the first summer project "protection against drugs" to raise awareness on the harmful effects and risks of drugs, at Al-Rayyan Sports Club. The project targets 25 youth centers and sports clubs.
Organized by Studies and International Affairs Department at the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement, the project includes numerous events and awareness activities, as per age group, which aim to raise the awareness of adolescents and young people of the risks and damages posed by narcotics through scientific cultural contests, lectures, and exhibitions to raise awareness on drugs.
Assistant Director of Studies and International Affairs Department at the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement Major Nasser Zayed Al Shahwani said such an event comes within the framework of the implementation of the national project to raise awareness on the harms and risks of drugs 2023.
He highlighted to the affiliates of the summer club the importance of taking advantage of summer vacations and investing them in filling leisure time, pointing out that adolescents and young people are the most age groups that are targeted by preventive programmes during the whole year, urging the affiliates to practice sports, cultural and religious activities available at clubs and summer centers.
The event programme focuses on preventive education and its significance in raising societal awareness of the risks of psychotropic substances to shed light on health, security, legal and religious aspects that are associated with narcotics addiction, trafficking, smuggling and manufacturing, as well as prevention methods.
