Under the auspices of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the 7th edition of the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition & Conference (DIMDEX 2022) will launch today, under the theme “The most prominent international event for the communication of security and defence professionals.”
Hosted and organised by Qatar Armed Forces, the event will take place at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC).
The new version, “DIMDEX 2022”, is an expression of Qatar’s awareness of the importance of maritime security for various countries of the world, as well as Doha’s interest in gathering all those concerned with this important and vital sector from decision-makers, experts, specialists, developers of defense technology, maritime security and research and development institutions under one roof to discuss the challenges and risks facing maritime security, and to learn about the latest innovations, equipment and devices to address these challenges.
The new edition, which will run between March 21 and 23, consists of four main components, they are: the main exhibition in which new and future technologies will be displayed, a Middle East Naval Commanders conference, displaying the visiting warships at Hamad Port, in addition to an opportunity to communicate with more than 80 delegations that has VIPs from all over the world.
DIMDEX is one of the regions most prestigious maritime defence exhibitions, and on the agenda of the global maritime security and defence sector, especially as it provides a global platform for displaying defense technology and capabilities in the field of maritime industries, and enhances Doha’s position as a thriving commercial center that attracts the largest participating countries. The organisation of the event comes in the framework of strengthening the defence and security capabilities of the State of Qatar and its sisterly and friendly countries in order to combat terrorism and secure maritime borders. It also reflects Qatar’s commitment to cooperation with various countries to enhance stability and play a significant role in addressing emerging challenges.
The exhibition’s new edition will showcase some of the equipment manufactured in Qatar by Barzan company, which already partners with many countries all over the world. The Qatari Amiri Naval Forces play an important and essential role in the operations of the Qatari territorial waters, and have witnessed in recent years tremendous development and modernisation in terms of its equipment to keep pace with scientific development and technological progress, in order to help it maintain maritime security and protect the Qatari borders and its economic interests. Preserving the security and safety of maritime boundaries and ports is one of the priorities of the State of Qatar, as the geographic location that characterises the country is at the center of many important international treaties and cooperation agreements with neighboring and friendly countries struck to protect the security of the region from risks and challenges.
Some of these agreements include intensifying investment in research and development, and consolidating the principles of maritime governance, in order to help achieve sustainable development in this field, and enhance the role of the maritime security and defence sector in achieving the 14th goal of the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations. DIMDEX represents a great opportunity for the Ministry of Interior (MoI) to participate in it through the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security and learn about the latest maritime security technologies, enhance the Directorate’s capabilities in securing the country’s maritime space, limit smuggling operations, protect borders and maritime assets, ensure the safety of navigation and maritime transports and other matters and task carried out by the MOI.
The exhibition has taken its place among international exhibitions and achieved outstanding successes over the past years in light of the large presence of defense ministers and military leaders from brotherly and friendly countries. The increasing global participation in the exhibition reflects the great confidence and credibility enjoyed by the State of Qatar and its political leadership, as well as its role in supporting international and regional stability.
