DOHA: As part of efforts to further improve the ‘ease of doing business’, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has launched a new mobile service to enable the establishment of companies online — through its mobile app.
The service is available on iPhone and Android devices under the name MEC_QATAR and enables investors to establish firms at any time and from anywhere in the world. It is part of smartphone applications provided by the ministry to improve business processes in Qatar and streamline and speed up business incorporation procedures, promoting Qatar’s business and investment environment.
With simple steps, investors are able to complete the process. Applicants should begin by selecting the company type according to their preference, and click on the general services box. Applicants should access investor services, followed by incorporation services (after reserving a trade name) and select the type of company to be initiated — a limited liability company comprising one owner or more (LLC) and should register as a single company.
Following these steps, the applicant must enter the trade name previously selected, determine and enter the firm’s duration in years, identify the owners, their responsibilities and their level of control, basic company data and company activity and upload the required documents.
Applicants can then review a summary of their application before it is submitted.
The ministry will send a text message notifying the applicant that their request is under process. Ministry employees will review applications and notify applicants should there be a need for additional information.
Subsequent to approval, a text message will be sent, requesting the investor to visit any of the ministry’s branches to attest the articles of incorporation and issue the commercial registration.
Investors will be able to commence and open their business following one visit.
The ministry has launched smart electronic services, representing a quantum leap forward with respect to the means of communication between it and the public — consumers, investors or those interested in economic affairs.
Users are able to access a basket of electronic services. For instance, issuing and renewing commercial licences and records, accessing commercial company records, searching for commercial names, accessing company details and certificates of non-ownership in addition to administrative services that enable entrepreneurs to manage their businesses easily and conveniently.
The ministry was recently honoured with the Best Mobile-Government Service Award in the Arab world in the economy and trade sector category in recognition of its mobile app on iPhone and Android. Launched mid-last year, the app is one of the most important and innovative initiatives by the ministry.
