Doha: The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Aspire Zone Foundation, Qatar Football Association and Qatar Stars League yesterday announced plans to organise six matches of QNB Stars League, Qatargas League as well as Second Division at the renovated Khalifa International Stadium between today and December 1.
The QNB Stars League games rescheduled to be played at the refurbished venue are Al Rayyan vs Al Gharafa (Round 9, November 25) and Al Khor vs Al Sadd (Round 10, December 1).
Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa were to originally play at the Al Sadd Stadium, while the other fixture was to be played as Al Khor’s home match.
The decision to host these matches at the Khalifa International Stadium, which opened its doors to the world this May with the Emirs Cup final, is to give Qatar’s wider footballing family an opportunity to experience the stadium first hand, a host venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The matches will also allow the Khalifa International Stadium Operations Team to continue testing the venue’s operations and management as part of the SCs ongoing readiness strategy.
All eight proposed World Cup venues, which will be completed by 2020, will undergo rigorous testing to ensure they are being operated effectively.
