Doha: The first phase of the ‘Qualification and Preparation of the Arbitrators Programme’ began virtually, recently.

The programme, which is being organised by the Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) of Qatar Chamber in collaboration with the Qatar University’s Community Service and Continuing Education Centre, held under the title “Concept and Legal Nature of Commercial Arbitration”.

The training aimed to help trainees learn about the concept and types of arbitration and systems similar to arbitration, and types and legal nature arbitration, as well as to provide them with the requirements of arbitration litigation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the programme, QICCA Board Member for International Relations Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali Al Thani said that Qatar’s legislation environment contributed to disseminating the culture of arbitration in business community, noting that Law No (2) of 2017 on arbitration in civil and commercial matters had taken into account the best and modern practices and trends in international arbitration.

Sheikh Thani also pointed out that alternative methods of dispute resolution, especially arbitration, have greatly developed and the general rules in force have been adapted several times, so that visual arbitration or remote arbitration has become the most recent feature of international arbitration, particularly in light of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.

He added: “QICCA had made it a priority to disseminate the arbitration culture and introduce the most recent trends in the use of alternative means of dispute resolution. It successfully managed to qualify a myriad of arbitrators who are eligible to settle commercial disputes.”
