Doha: The Qatar Public Prosecution (QPP) announced that it had apprehended two individuals for tweeting abuse at a citizen after her having achieved sporting honors for the State of Qatar.
In its statement, the Public Prosecution said that the Twitter account owners were being detained until the investigation wraps.
The Public Prosecution decried account owners’ actions as ones which would harm public interest, and is contrary to principles and social, provoking racial strife and hatred, and spreading a spirit of discord among members of society values.
The tweeters’ actions also constitute a criminal offense that punishable by law, as per the QPP statement.
