DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has launched a new social programme 'Effective Parenting' to boost Qatari families.
Seventy-five beneficiaries from vulnerable families, mothers, grandmothers, and would-be wives benefit from this QR100,000 programme so far, QRC said.
It comprises a three-day series of lectures and workshops, taught by psychological and educational experts.
Topics include role of a social worker, effective management of behaviour, family education, I make the change, distress of widows and divorcees, and resolution of marital strife.
The programme has positive impact on society. It creates socially trained, self-managed group with professional and academic experience needed for child upbringing. It focuses on women since they have strong influence on children, QRC said.
QRC Director of Social Development, Rashid bin Saad Al Mohannadi, said: "Parents have a big influence on a child's personality. Children spend most of their time with their parents and assimilate their thought, attitudes, values, and behaviours. Parents are role models for the children. Behaviour has more effect than just verbal advice."
Effective parenting, he said, is a globally tested-and-proven programme to improve the way parents bring their children up. Its key premise is that all educators, including parents, need training.
The programme offers ways to bring children up, based on self-discipline, responsibility, and current challenges to behavioural refinement.
This programme is part of QRC's plan to support weak groups, and improve their sufficiency and productivity.
