Tacoma, United States--Dustin Johnson established a two-shot lead over the field during the second round of the US Open at Chambers Bay on Friday.

The biggest-hitter on the tour was co-leader overnight alongside Swede Henrik Stenson after both carded 65s.

He dropped a stroke at the third, but moved to the top of the leaderboard at seven under with birdies at 4, 7, 8 and 11.

He stood two shots clear of clubhouse leader and fellow American Jordan Spieth.

The Masters champion had a 67 and was at five-under 135 with South African Branden Grace a further stroke back after a 67.

Four players were in on 137 - Joost Luiten, Tony Finau, Daniel Summerhays and Ben Martin.

Next best still out on the course was another American, Patrick Reed, on four under through 10 holes.

World number one Rory McIlroy was making no progress from the two over mark he started the day on until he eagled the par-four 12th to get to one over and improve his chances of making the cut.

Woods, meanwhile, added a 76 to his opening 80 and at 16 over par he was on his way home after another disastrous tournament.
