DOHA: Katara has organised a two-day conference titled “English Da’wa Skills” which focused on effective intercultural communication.
The conference held on Wednesday and Thursday in Katara Building 15 was organised in cooperation with Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services — RAF. It was hosted by Dr Khaled Ibrahim Al Dousari, a lecturer who holds a PhD in Business Management and Masters Degrees in Sciences and Human Resources from the US.
“We should develop international leaders to introduce Islam since we are facing criticisms in addition to the west’s perception of us,” said Dr Al Dousari.
“We should be a moving Islam exhibition in any place and time; as Muslims we cannot separate religion from our lives. Islam is not just a religion; it is a way of life,” he added.
He said that the misuse of Islam by some people gives a wrong impression and when the message should be transferred it in a correct manner, adding each person who succeeds in intercultural communication assists in building a peaceful future for the whole world.
“Many people speak English fluently and have knowledge about Islam but are unable to communicate efficiently in English on the subject of Islam due to the lack of appropriate terms known to them,” Al Dousari said.
At the end of the conference, the participants are expected to acquire skills for improving Islamic culture and efficient communication in addition to the ability to discuss Islamic concepts in English as well as provide short presentations regarding Islam on any chosen subject.
The conference contributes as well in raising awareness on the importance of language in any given intercultural meeting and enables individuals to acknowledge and acquire some necessary terms in other religion as required to introduce Islam. The Peninsula
