DOHA: Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, recently hosted 55 executives from key Qatari institutions in a three-day workshop focusing on refining project management skills.
Held at CMU-Q’s campus, the workshop was an introduction to Structured Project Management, which targets employees in the public and private sectors, and aims to hone management, structural and organisational skills needed for major capital projects in Qatar. Attendees included employees of the Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Culture, Arts and Heritage, the General Secretariat for Development Planning, Qatar Statistics Authority, Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, Supreme Council for Education, RasGas Company Limited, Al Jazeera Media Network, Qatar Airways, Qatar Finance and Business Academy, as well as Faisal Holding Group and Ezdan Holding Group.
Speaking at the close of the workshop, Dean and CEO of CMU-Q, Ilker Baybars, extended his warm thanks to the participants, recognising their commitment and active involvement in the course, and encouraged them to continue participating in the executive training programme developed by the university.
“This programme effectively contributes to the development of human resources leading Qatar’s National Development Strategy, and invests in people which is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030,” said Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, the Director General of Public Security (Chief of Police).
“We are grateful to CMU-Q for organising and hosting this programme, and look forward to developing a lasting and fruitful partnership with CMU-Q in the practical executive training field, as well as in the areas of science research, and education,” the Police Chief said.
“I am happy to have taken an active part in instructing during this training course. The participants were highly responsive, enthusiastic and interactive throughout the three days and they consistently delivered interesting and innovative ideas that provide us with practical solutions to challenges faced by project managers,” said Tarik Rafiq, senior IT project manager at CMU-Q and the lead training instructor.
Rafiq’s lectures addressed project management techniques, structural and administrative organisation, project scheduling and planning, resource management, cash flow and cost control, in addition to feasibility studies, project assessment and the management of deadlines.
“The training programme was excellent, and the content is on par with the latest trends and developments in project management,” said Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Mawlawi, Chief of Business Development and Marketing at Qatar Islamic International Bank.
