DOHA: The Lagoona 2 Roundabout has been converted into a signal-controlled intersection to improve traffic on Lusail Road, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said yesterday.
The intersection includes traffic sensors to detect vehicle patterns that vary throughout the day and help determine the timing of lights. It is part of the Lusail Expressway project.
The roundabout leading to the Zig Zag towers has been closed to build another roundabout to control incoming traffic towards the Zig Zag Towers and Lagoona Mall.
Motorists from the direction of the mall and the towers wanting to access the Pearl will need to drive to Lagoona 1 Roundabout, also known as Diplomatic Roundabout, take a U-turn and head back to the Pearl Qatar.
The expressway project is part of Expressway Programme which involves reconstruction and upgrading of existing Lusail Street from south of Al Wahda Street (Arch Roundabout) to the North Canal Crossing and connecting Lusail area with West Bay. The expressway involves construction of tunnels, flyovers and junctions comprising three multilevel interchanges, connecting the Pearl Qatar, Katara and Lusail, as well as residential and commercial areas in the surrounding area.
