Qatar’s Industrial Production index (IPI) for February 2021 stood at 99.3 points, showing a decrease of 7.3 percent compared to the previous month (January 2021). When compared on year-on-year basis, the IPI index has decreased by 2.1 percent compared to the corresponding month in 2020, data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) show.
The index of the “Mining” sector showed a decrease by 7.7 percent compared to the previous month (January 2021), as a result of the decrease in the quantities of “Crude oil petroleum and Natural gas” by 7.7 percent, while “Other mining and Quarrying” showed an increase by 0.8 percent.
When compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (February 2020), the IPI of Mining decreased by 1.6 percent.
The index of the “Manufacturing” sector showed a decrease of 4.2 percent recorded in February 2021 compared to the previous month (January 2021), which refer to decrease in the following groups: “Manufacture of beverages” by 9.5 percent, followed by “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 9.1 percent, “Printing and reproduction of recorded media’’ by 8.0 percent, “Manufacture of food products” by 6.7 percent, “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 3.7 percent, “Manufacture of Cement and other non-metallic mineral products” by 3.3 percent, and “Manufacture of basic metals” by 1.2 percent.
However, an increase was recorded in the “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 1.7 percent
On the other hand, in terms of annual change, comparing to February 2020, a decrease of 4.0 percent was recorded, affected by the following groups: “Printing and reproduction of recorded media’’ by 82.4 percent, followed by “Manufacture of beverages” by 23.5 percent, “Manufacture of food products” by 8.8 percent, “Manufacture of basic metals” by 8.7 percent, and “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 5.1 percent.
However, an increase was recorded in the “Manufacture of Cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 16.6 percent, “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 10.7 percent, and “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 5.3 percent.
The index of “Electricity” sector showed a decrease of 10.3 percent in the production of “Electricity” between February 2021 and the previous month (January 2021), while the annual decrease (comparing with February 2020) was 3.6 percent.
The index of the “Water” sector showed a decrease of 17.4% in the production of “Water” group between Feb 2021 and the previous month (Jan 2021). Comparing with corresponding month (Feb 2020), a decrease of 12.2% was recorded.
