Lyrids meteor shower is usually active every year from April 16, till April 25, while its peak occurs around April 22, every year.
Residents of the Northern Hemisphere, including Qatar, will have a good chance to see and observing Lyrids meteor shower.
Moreover, it will illuminate the northern hemisphere sky from the evening tomorrow till the dawn of April 22, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) announced.
Astronomer expert at (QCH) Dr. Beshir Marzouk said the Lyrids meteor shower is usually active every year from April 16, till April 25, while its peak occurs around on April 22, every year.
According to astronomer experts on meteors shower observations, Lyrids meteor shower is one of the important meteors showers seen from Earth, where the average rate of Lyrids showers flow will be 10 - 20 Lyrids meteors per hour.
Dr. Beshir Marzouk, added, “The observing of the meteor shower does not need any astronomical instrumentation so that Qatar residents and the countries of all Northern Hemisphere residents can see Lyrids meteor showers with naked eye from places without light and environment pollution (pure sky), and darker places. They need to look to eastern horizon of the sky from midnight till the dawn of Wednesday to observe Lyrids meteor showers. They can take perfect photos for Lyrids meteor shower by using recent digital cameras, but they need to increase an exposure time of the camera to get the best photos for Lyrids meteor shower.”
The observation of Lyrids meteor showers this year will be very special because the sky will be darker from midnight until the dawn of Saturday, where the moon will rise over Qatar sky on Wednesday at 4:50am Doha local time.
Lyrids meteor shower is created by debris from “Thatcher Comet”; where the Earth passes through the dust and debris it leaves behind during April 16, till April 25 every year.
