Tarsheed helps cut power and water consumption

DOHA: The ongoing National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency — Tarsheed — has achieved success in reducing per capita electricity and water consumption by 14 percent and 17 percent, respectively, and saving about QR800m since its launch until 2015, also reducing carbon dioxide emissions and consumption of gases. 
Under the patronage of Emir  H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is going to mark the fourth annual celebration of Tarsheed on Sunday at Sheraton Doha. 
The celebration will be held under the theme ‘Tomorrow starts Today’ in partnership with Aamal and Doha Cables.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdulla bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani will attend the event, along with Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Kahramaa President Engineer Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, President of Kahramaa and other dignitaries. 
Kahramaa is expected to announce during the event its further strategies, projects and achieved targets for the ongoing programme, which aims at rationalising consumption of water and electricity and intensifying the culture of conservation of vital resources in Qatar. 
In addition, Kahramaa also aims through its multi-fold strategies and programmes to reach all segments of society to create awareness about conserving the precious resources.
During the event, individuals and corporate who have been selected under various categories for their entries for competitions organised by Kahramaa’s Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department will be honoured.
It motivates society to work together, contributing to the goals and ambitions of Qatar National Vision 2030. 
The main target of Tarsheed is to reduce per capita water and electricity consumption by 35 percent and 20 percent, respectively, by 2017. 
Through the programme, Kahramaa also aims at becoming a role model in the field of conservation and environmental sustainability, among others.
