Halul: The Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman of Qatar Petroleum (QP), H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, inaugurated a number of projects, including the expansion and development of Halul Port, oil shipping and export of crude oil, as well as new central maintenance workshops in Halul Island, on Monday.
Dr Al Sada also inaugurated new buildings belonging to the Fire Department on the island and the Al Maha Club. He also laid the foundation stone of Halul Island maritime cable which is expected to be completed in mid-2016. This will provide Halul around 200 megawatts of electricity from Ras Laffan through two maritime cables as well as to a 600-bed residential building with full facilities that are expected to be completed by mid-2015.
During the opening of the expansion and development of Halul Port Project, Dr Al Sada inaugurated the loading of oil tanker No. 5393 with crude oil. Managers from Qatar Petroleum and senior managers from joint ventures of Qatar Petroleum, including Total, Occidental Qatar Petroleum Company and Qatar Petroleum Development Company were present at the inauguration.
The series of inaugurations made in Halul Island, came in the context of QP offshore operations management celebrations marking the offshore operations day 2012 in which 50 years of success in the operation, production and export of oil and gas from offshore fields in Qatar, were reviewed.
QP’s Offshore Operations has been operating the Maydan Mahzam and Bul Hanine oil fields and the Halul Island Terminal and Export facilities for the past 50 years with excellent safety record while protecting and caring for the environment.
Qatar Marine Crude from these fields represents about 28 percent of Qatar’s total crude oil production, out of which 10 percent comes from QP-operated fields and 18 percent from QP’s joint venture partners - OPQL, TEPQ and QPD. The events started with a briefing on the safety measures on the island for all participants followed by recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. QP’s Offshore Fields Marine Operations Director Mubarak Aweidah Hajri welcomed the gathering and expressed his pleasure at the progress that the offshore operations has achieved in production and export operations without major incidents.
Meanwhile, Dr Al Sada confirmed that the Emir has built a solid base that qualified Qatar to continue its successes in various fields.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of celebrations marking the National Day, the Minister said: “It is a dear day to our hearts, the day in which Qatar, the country of celebrations and feasts, celebrates its national day’’. He congratulated the Emir, the Heir Apparent, the Qatari people and all residents on the good earth of Qatar on the this happy occasion.
